Supporting a friend or family member with an illness is tough – no matter how much practical help and emotional support you offer, it’s horrible knowing that they are suffering and you can’t make them feel better.
There is one thing you can do that might well help with that – let them know just how much doing a bit more physical activity could change how they feel, help with their illness and help prevent further illnesses. If they’re worried or nervous, maybe find out more about it, or find small ways to be more active with them. It will be hard at first, so offer encouragement – if you treat them as if they can’t do it, they’ll start to believe they can’t too.
Moving more is almost always totally safe, but if your friend or family member is worried about it, encourage them to ask their healthcare professional about it.
